ABOUT US
Sheep Gifts and More is the creation of Laura Lawson. She is a
retired Interior Designer. Her love of sheep stems from raising
sheep for more than 25 years. Along with husband Pat and
daughter Suzanne they started with a commercial group of
ewes, 20 strong and graduated little by little to having one of the
best known flock of purebred Suffolk sheep in Virginia. After
daughter Suzanne married,
The Lawsons continued their purebred sheep business for
several years. All the while, Laura continued making detailed
notes about every health problem that she and her sheep
encountered.
For a period of years, Laura wrote sheep health related articles
for several sheep magazines. Her knowledge came from her
keen interest in both human and animal health. Through the
extensive research and treatment of her own flock of sheep
while working with several veterinarians, she acquired enough
experience about sheep health and kept enough detailed notes
about the health of her sheep flock that she decided to share
her knowledge with others interested in sheep.
At this time, she realized that there wasn’t a simple system of
diagnosing sheep problems. As a result, she developed a
system of tracking, diagnosing, and treating disorders in sheep
by using a simple flow chart system. She has published three
books to date on sheep and lambs and is working on her fourth
book. Her first two sheep books LAMB PROBLEMS and
MANAGING YOUR EWE AND HER NEWBORN LAMB are into their
fourth printing. Her sheep books have become the bible for
many who must treat their own sheep for lack of veterinary help.
Her third sheep book was written mainly for youth interested in
showing sheep in competition. Her Showing Sheep book is also
one of the best books available for others interested in
competing in the show ring. Her sheep books can be found on
the Lawson website (www.lawsonfarms.com) and this website
www.sheepgiftsandmore.com, as well as Amazon and Borders.
The sheep books are also available internationally in Canada,
Great Britain, and Australia.
During the time that Laura was raising sheep, she began
creating different sheep gifts from wool and sheepskin that she
sold at juried craft shows. This led to her husband opening the
website Lawson Sheepskin (www.lawsonsheepskin.com). This
site now sells mainly sheepskin products, wool bedding and her
books.
In 2005 after searching on the internet for some sheep gifts for
friends, she realized that again there was a need for a site that
carried a more extensive selection of sheep gifts. She felt that
there should be a one-stop shopping site for sheep gifts that
carried more than just a few sheep gifts or sheep related items.
This has led to the creation of her new and exciting web site,
Sheep Gifts and more (www.sheepgiftsandmore.com). The "and
more" gifts are for those looking for one of a kind sheep gifts or
unusual gifts. Laura's own interest in Irish products, antiques,
and angels has led to the inclusion of these items in her new
store.
Laura's roots are in Tipperary County, Ireland where she visited
her family's homeplace in 2005. The original house is still
standing after more than 200 years. Her pride of being Irish and
her interest in all things Irish led to the creation of "Everything
Irish" on the gift website which will be coming soon. As an
interior designer Laura worked for many years with antique
furnishings and decor. As a result, she has included some one
of a kind vintage gifts and collectibles under the category of
Antiques and Collectibles.
FUTURE PLANS
Laura’s plan is for this to become one of the largest sheep gift
sites on the internet with an extensive array of sheep and lamb
themed gifts and sheep related gifts such as wool, sheepskin
and Border Collies. She personally designs and creates many of
the sheep themed gift baskets and sets that are featured in the
Sheep Milk Bath & Body Gift Sets and the Sheep GiftsDesigner
Baskets & Sets categories of the website.
Laura is planning on providing a newsletter that will give design
and decorating tips, and much more as the site grows. She plans
on overseeing every aspect of this portion of the business. We
